A novel by

It feels good to be home, breathing the fresh mountain air.
Seattle is my home now but my connection to this mountain is resilient. No matter where I go, I will always return.
True, it hasn’t started off well with my car stuck in a ditch outside town…
But Rowan came to save the day.
Bless him, he was always there when I needed him.
I wonder if he knows about his brother and I?
It was a wild summer fling that meant nothing, but rumours spread quickly on the mountain.
Yet, looking at Rowan now… he’s different.
It’s almost electric when I’m around him and he’s joining the New Years race just like me.
Luck actually had us paired together!
Maybe moving away all those years ago wasn’t the right choice…
Maybe my heart has belonged to the mountain all along…

Rowan
Wow… Lilly… She’s back.
I wasn’t sure I would see her again, now that she lives in Seattle.
As a kid I followed her around like a lost puppy but she never saw the signs.
As soon as I saw her I realised that childhood crush hadn’t disappeared. In fact, seeing her now… well, it’s grown!
She’s beautiful and creative. She loves the same things I do… but it’s complicated.
Her whole life is in Seattle, I could never spring something like this on her and expect her to choose me…
And does she even like me at all?
Now I know she will be my partner in the race, we will spend more time together.
Maybe she’ll see the real me, the boy that’s had a crush on her his whole life.
And I’ll do whatever it takes to prove to her that she's the one I love and meant to build a life with.

We’re family of seven boys who carried on our grandfather’s legacy and joined the army. While serving our country, our mother passed away, so we completed our obligations and returned to Stony River to help our aging father. While we had our differences growing up, the discipline of the army taught us the importance of oneness and family. We’re older and wiser, but things haven’t changed too much in the idyllic surroundings of Stony River. Life is getting back to normal. Back to being predictable. Until a little pebble called love is thrown into the smooth waters of Stony River life and the ripples reach each one of us.
