Leif Enger recommends
Brightly Shining (2024)
Ingvild Rishøi
"Brightly Shining feels fresh as spruce needles and ancient as bedrock. The clear and hopeful voice of Ronja slips easily into your heart and takes up residence like a breathless memory, like a song of unbearable beauty. I want to read more Ingvild Rishoi, and the sooner the better."
The Net Beneath Us (2022)
Carol Dunbar
"Dunbar delivers both a tumble through the shifting light of grief, and a forgiving forest floor on which to land."
The Land (2020)
Thomas Maltman
"Thomas Maltman’s The Land is a gift to readers longing for a tale of lost love, fringe prophets, souls in cold suspension, and ravens that darken the skies of a Northern winter. Set against looming apocalypse and the clicking of a projector showing classic films, The Land is generous, intricate, and propulsive. It has a kind heart and a tear in its eye, and I enjoyed it completely."
