Fifteen years after the ghostly events of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is once again visited by three apparitions on Christmas Eve.
But he is a changed man, a good man, so what can they possibly want of him?
Well, there is an unanswered question in Dickens' classic, which Scrooge must confront before the bells of Christmas morning ring again in 1858.
As Ebenezer Scrooge sleeps on the morning of the 24th of December, 1858, a strange voice whispers through his chambers, hissing, "Scrooge, you lied..."
He doesn't remember the voice when he awakens, but whatever its spectral form, it has a question that needs addressing; one that has remained unanswered since his magical conversion from miserliness to happiness fifteen years previously.
What is the question? Which spirits are to visit him and where will he go? And what does all this have to do with the story of A Christmas Carol?
So come back to Cheapside in Victorian London to meet once again with Ebenezer Scrooge and discover what has occurred in the years after his first ghostly visitations. Christmas awaits and you are most welcome to join Scrooge for Another Christmas Carol.
Richard Easter is the author of The Snow Trilogy, three novels that can be read independently but which are connected by themes, characters, and backstories.
Another Christmas Carol is indirectly part of that story cycle, but also exists as a stand-alone novella. After the story, you'll find two essays to ease you into the festive season; one concerns the background of how Dickens came up with arguably his most famous creation, the other considers how the rituals and traditions of Christmas came about, and how you can truly feel Chistmassy this season.
Merry Christmas, one and all!
