Shannon: The Road to Whiskey Creek takes the reader with Shannon on a journey though the changing west, as he faces challenges and danger that surpass even those he faced in the earlier days of his life.

Shannon's career as a frontier lawman began during the wild, dangerous years of the great cattle drives, when ranchers drove their herds northward year after year to railheads in Kansas. In places like Wichita, Dodge City, and other wide-open Kansas trail towns, young Shannon's fast gun and iron will quickly carried him to the top of his profession. But now the day of the cattle drives is almost over, and the men who earned their reputations keeping the peace in the glory days of 1870s and 1880s find themselves faced with the changing world and changing roles.

No longer needed in the old trail towns, Shannon finds himself moving on to new challenges, first as he is called upon to aid a community wracked by a vicious and bloody range war, and then to save, single-handedly, a dying desert town from the wrath of an outlaw gang.
