The Curse of Snakes

'Something had been released into the night streets. It moved unnoticed and sucked the life from people. It caused quiet painful death, and got away with doing so because even the ones who could sense it pretended it wasn't there. And now, with quiet deliberation, it was heading for the street where I lived'. Red Hellion lives opposite the creepy, tightly locked Torrington Park, or 'Viper's Green' where numerous people are thought to have disappeared without trace. He has never been inside, but walking home from school one day, he sees a boy trying to break in. The boy, Max, is intent on exploring the park, and tells Red he is looking for snakes. Puzzled and curious, Red follows him in. Before he knows it, Red finds himself sucked into Max's plans to discover the whereabouts of his father, who disappeared five weeks earlier. Having behaved strangely just prior to his disappearance and claiming to have found something in the park, it seems likely something sinister has happened to Max's father. But neither Max nor Red realise just how sinister, and their investigations into the park and the legend of Medusa that is so inexplicably linked to it are about to lead them into terrible danger...
