Newly appointed Detective/Second Grade, Gemma Summers, celebrates by going to north Georgia to raft the Chattooga River, the whitewater made famous by the movie and book, "Deliverance".
A body literally lands on her motel doorstep. Although she's out of her jurisdiction, she battles the rapids and unmasks killers as merciless as the treacherous river.
REVIEWS
Merciless brings the Chattooga River to life with some fabulous descriptive passages, but the scene setting never gets in the way of the storytelling - a fault all too often found in stories where a sense of place is essential.
The storyline really gets going when a woman dies at the feet of Detective Gemma Summers and continues with Gemma's journey down the river in company with the suspects from the murder. By the time the trip is over she has solved the crime, but along the way the plot takes as many twists, turns and tumbles as the white-water she's rafting. - Susan Denham

I've rafted the Chattooga River. Miss Finger knows all the falls and the twists and hidden water caves. This book is very exciting. I've been there but if I hadn't been I'd be there by her descriptions. The book makes me want to go back and ride the rapids again but now I'm on the west coast I can't for a while. - Eamon Riley.
