Welcome to the Industrial Revolution.
Having defeated witches, evil queens, and raging self-doubt, Sorin the Master Chemist has one remaining task - restore the guilds of Gasta Fletcha to save the continent's economy and heritage.
Time is short, however. Magda, Sorin's childhood friend and maybe-girlfriend, is about to be coronated Queen of Sorpsi, and is ready to embrace industrialization. Preserving guilder skills isn't a pressing need anymore, not with the plentiful factory jobs and abundance of Gasta Fletcha's natural resources. Sorin does not agree with this change of heart, but the queens mind is made up.
Sorin would like nothing more than to sort their differences with Magda, restore the guilds, and ignore magicbut the magic of Gasta Fletcha will not be ignored. First mysterious magic bone amulets are unearthed and then come maimed children and other factory accidents, prompting Sorin to set out on a quest to determine the true effect of the factories on their homeland. But the world is much more complex than Sorin anticipated, and the young chemist's worldview is consistently challenged and reformed. It will take a blend of magic, chemistry, tradition and progress to save Magda and Gasta Fletcha, and Sorin must decide what is truly in the people's best interesthistory and culture or economic prosperity. One choice will cost Sorin their queen. The other will cost them their heritage.
