Corbyn was fond of Cassie. But she was young, and he’d always thought of her as a little sister. Lately, something had changed.

Corbyn was busy running the clinic and taking care of his daughter, Rose. Since her mother left town, he was Rose’s primary caregiver. Fortunately, the whole family chipped in to help. Among those who helped was Cassie. Rose loved her, and Corbyn found himself eating at the café where Cassie worked more often than not.

He told himself it was for Rose’s sake. But he enjoyed spending time with Cassie. He just couldn’t let things go beyond that.

Cassie grew up with Corbyn’s younger brothers and cousins. To her, he was always the big, unapproachable brother. He was cute, smart, funny when he wanted to be, and very popular with the girls. Then he went away to medical school. She never realized how much she missed him until he came back with a wife and child.

But now, the wife was gone, and he needed help with Rose. Cassie was all too willing to help. Maybe someday Corbyn would see her as more than the girl who used to spend too much time at the family ranch. Maybe one day he’d see her as the woman who loved him.

Mend My Broken Heart is the seventh book in the Calaway Crossing series.
