In 1698, two young brothers took to the high seas. One became a Royal Navy commander. The other became a pirate. When the two met again many years later, only one of them would come out alive and sail off with a stolen galleon and an immense hoard of gold and silver from the Spanish Main. However, the ship and its treasure then vanished into the night, never to be seen again.

In present-day London, a burglary at the British Museum ends in murder. An ancient Aztec artefact is stolen, but the man behind it has designs on a much greater prize.

When historian and archaeologist Fiona Keane discovers a clue to the location of a pirate ship thought to have been involved in the capture of the Spanish galleon, she sets off for the Caribbean to find its wreck.
She enlists the help of her partner and former active member of the SAS, Andrew Sterling, and together, Andrew and Fiona must solve the mystery of the Black Galleon and find its treasure. However, other and more sinister forces are also looking for it, and soon, the two of them find themselves in a deadly race against an unscrupulous treasure hunter, his entourage of former soldiers, violent Haitian gangs and a deranged local kingpin obsessed with Voodoo.
