The Casebook of Killer McCain

(2012)
A novel by

Connor McCain is a tough-guy detective, but he doesn't want to be. He'd rather be a cerebral detective like Hercule Poirot, inspecting a crime scene, interviewing witnesses, accusing the guilty party in a denouement that may bruise egos but not his knuckles. He plants spices on his windowsill and dates a doctor, Maddie, who doubts his true commitment to a life of the mind. To prove his sincerity, Connor takes a case from two little old ladies who have lost their nephew, following the trail to a cribbage tournament in the Catskill Mountains. But Killer McCain's reputation precedes him, and other people's expectations prove stronger than his preferences, drawing him into situations where throwing a punch may be the only intelligent thing to do.

Richard Fliegel has published detective novels with Bantam and Simon & Schuster and has also written for television, including "Star Trek: the Next Generation." His work has been nominated for a Shamus Award.
