Injured in the line of duty, Las Vegas Metro Homicide Detective Ryan Tyler is recovering at his family cabin in remote northeastern Washington State. His recovery includes plenty of sitting on the deck of the cabin, drinking beer and watching deer, followed by evenings at the local tavern, eating buffalo steaks and drinking more beer. His routine is interrupted when a drinking buddy is found murdered, and the local sheriff, a friend of Tyler's from high school, requests his assistance with the murder investigation.

Tyler reluctantly agrees to help, but quickly realizes there's more going on than just a routine murder. The victim had recently made a discovery that, if true, could make the little town of Chesaw a household name. While beginning a relationship with a local veterinarian, Tyler works the clues, first alongside the county homicide detectives, and later, on his own. When he lands himself in hot water with his own department, he must rush to find the killer before he's ordered to return to Las Vegas, and before a ruthless murderer strikes again.

With Detective Ryan Tyler's typical wit, sarcasm, and unique charm that was introduced in DRAWING DEAD, author Rick Fuller explores homicide investigation in small town USA, and delves into what happens when science crashes into legend, and everybody around has a private agenda, and a secret to hide.
