On a frigid, gloomy night, Ericka Barlow and her boyfriend, Spencer Carey, race across the dark Nevada high desert, a massive winter snowstorm thundering along in their wake, gobbling up the stars above the desolate landscape. Wanting nothing more than to crawl into a bed, they have no idea that ahead of them two criminals have taken hostages in a tiny rundown motel at the edge of an isolated mountain town on highway 50, the Loneliest Road in America. As Ericka and Spencer pull into the motel and walk into the middle of a dangerous plot, they have no idea that their lives are about to change forever. As the snow begins to fall heavily on the bunkered town of Austin, Nevada, Ericka and the other hostages draw up a daring plan of escape, one that will require incredible fortitude and bravery from a girl who has led a very sheltered life. Unbeknownst to Ericka as she runs headlong through the snow-covered mountains in a desperate bid to seek help, treachery and deception are already eroding her path to freedom.
