Cecil 'Specs' Kensal is now a young teenager in the early 1950s. After the trials of World War II, which nobody really bothered to explain, Specs' dad has suddenly reappeared -- apparently owning a vast ranch Down Under -- but still in need of a place to sleep till his luggage and money arrives. Which is a bit of problem, seeing as Specs' mam and Uncle Sid have been sharing a bed for years now, and Effie Kensal can't quite decide between them.
More to the point, what to do about Specs? No longer a child, not yet an adult, Specs hungers for the adventures he's convinced are waiting for him beyond the Midlands -- and that doesn't mean working on the 'Gas' all his life. If only he was a bit older. If only he had enough money for his fare. If only he had a passport ... he'd join the Foreign Legion. 'Beau Specs' sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
Genre: General Fiction
