Aggie Fairley has always played it safe by being the "good girl" who did what was expected of her. She has dated the man approved by her family for several years. Then she encounters a former boyfriend from high school who had broken her heart as a teen.

Rick Navarro had always resented the way Aggie's grandfather had tried to buy him off to keep him away from Aggie when he was a teenager. Having not taken the cash, he left town to join the army. Now, two decades later, he is back, running a small business, and feeloing like a modest success.

When Aggie doesn't seem pleased to see him, Rick storms away, only to see her again at a local restaurant later that day. Still angry, he shows her proof of what Aggie's grandfather had done. As Aggie begins to question her family's motives, she comes to like and respect the man that Rick has become. Will Aggie and Rick be able to get beyond the trick that separated them in the past and create a future of their own together?
