War grips East Asia, and a desperate dictator lashes out in his final hours. Five months after the guns fall silent, the first signs of another, more terrible war appear—a silent invasion fought not on land, in the air, or at sea, but within our bodies. All of our bodies.

For most, the incubation period lasts a few months, but for others the fuse smolders, inching ever closer to the moment when the viral time bomb finally detonates. No one knows when they, or the person next to them, will descend into a fit of fevered madness, but it
will happen. When the symptoms erupt, friends become enemies, lovers become threats, and those left standing become judge, jury, and executioner.

The lucky few who survive the pathogen’s onslaught—and the secrets locked within their blood—are called to “Sanctuary,” a CDC fallback location in Missouri. Sam Irving, Kenny Bristol, and a small band of survivors, must get one of the lucky ones—a little girl named Mycah Carpenter—to Sanctuary before the hunters born of a broken world drag them down.

And before they—at any moment—succumb to the fury.
