NO WORD FOR THE SEA explores the destrucive effects of Alzheimer's. It also looks at what can be salvaged from such an experience. The novel alternates between Stephen's narrative in first-person and Solome's narrative in third-person. Mark 8:36 asks, What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world, and lose his soul? NO WORD FOR THE SEA asks, What if a man gained his soul but lost the world?
