A novel by

Leo Guild has one mission -- to get his prisoner Maloney to the Danton sheriff's office as soon as possible and collect his reward. A former lawman turned bounty hunter, Guild is hot, tired, and worn out. His work has taken its toll and Danton seems as good a place as any for some rest, food, and other pleasurable diversions. But Danton isn't a place to rest body or mind, Build discovers. In a short time an unhealthy number of bodes begins to stack up. And the sound of gunfire can be mighty disruptive. So Guild, usually ambivalent about which side of the law to favor, comes to the aid of an old army acquaintance, Sheriff Cornell Baines; a blue-eyed angel named Annie; and a strong-minded newspaper editor, Ruby Gillespie. Together they must face Frank Cord, Danton's all -powerful banker, whose greed and obsessions have no boundaries. If they don't succeed, it's only a matter of time before the seeds of Cord's destruction will ruin them all and destroy Danton.
