Jack Steel marches on in this second of a Sharpe-like series which started with 'Man of Honour'. Fans of Sharpe will rejoice in Steel. In the early eighteenth century, the British army led by John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, were the leaders of a wide-ranging and very successful alliance. Jack Steel, maverick gentleman, superb soldier, was in the middle of any fight. Here Jack Steel and his Scottish Grenadiers are fighting in a crucial campaign in Spain against the Spanish Crown but aided, erratically, by local guerrillas. But their way of fighting is far from the British army's ways or standards and Jack Steel must chose between winning the battle and adherence to civilised rules. Fans of Sharpe will rejoice in Steel.
