Texas Ranger Andy Anderson, his horse Patches, and dog Tippy Howard, are on their way back to Ranger Headquarters in Austin. Andy decides to stop for the night in the town of Llano.
Andy soon discovers that the hotel he has chosen is apparently haunted. Then, he meets three children, ten year old Tommy, his seven year old sister Becky, and Tommy's best friend Julio. They inform him Llano is plagued by another ghost, one which is frightening people, then stealing from them. Ranger Andy agrees to help them look for the spirit, and put an end to its tricks.
What follows is a suspenseful mystery, as Andy and his new friends search for the ghost, questioning those who have encountered it, and looking for clues to its hiding places. When Andy stumbles into danger while chasing the ghost, it's up to Tommy, Becky, and Julio to save the day. Will they be on time? If not, Andy's fate may never be known.
