Seventeen-year-old Beep Ormsby was a freelance reporter for The Lexington Herald-Leader mostly covering high-school football games. He thought he’d won the lottery when the reporter assigned to do a Kentucky Derby sidebar story was injured and Beep—the third-choice fill-in—got to go.

There he was at historic Churchill Downs, home of the famous twin spires, laminated press credential on a lanyard around his neck, bumping elbows with famous trainers, jockeys, and TV media. Beep’s assignment was simple: report on whether Happy Feet—the Derby favorite—was worth the $2.25-million Prince Faisal of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had paid for him.

Simple, right?

Except, Beep gets a bad vibe from the Prince and his staff. Teaming-up with Jillian Hillard, a beautiful young photographer, Beep starts investigating and bad things start piling-up: Faisal might not be Faisal. A rival trainer might be sabotaging Happy Feet. And worst of all, terrorists might be plotting to blow-up Happy Feet as millions worldwide tune-in for the most exciting two minutes in sports.

The bad guys are on to Beep. With the start of the Derby just minutes away, can he stop them in time?

Beep’s going to have to risk it all in a race as exciting as the Kentucky Derby, itself.
