Forced to kill a man, Clint McCorg has never been the same.
He had no choice in the matter, but that hasn't stopped him becoming a bitter and fierce person few dare to cross.
So when Vendado, a town rapidly hurtling towards lawlessness, is in need of a new sheriff, he seems the perfect - if reluctant - man to whip it back into shape.
It's far from smooth running, with petty crimes and ranch rustling rife throughout the town.
But when three innocent men are kidnapped and murdered, McCorg has had enough.
It falls to him to go after the ruthless killers, who are determined to make his life as difficult as possible.
It's a tough enough job as it is, but for McCorg, it becomes personal.
Can he let go of his feelings for the sake of the job?
"A thrilling read." - Robert Foster, acclaimed author of The Lunar Code.
