The story of Lily Swan and the pirate ship Mermaid continues: As Napoleon's fleet descends on Malta, Lily and her crew begin a new career, smuggling food into Malta under the order of their friend Hussein Reis. In the course of one such visit, Lily learns that her long lost father may in fact still be alive. Unexpectedly Lily again encounters the vile Captain Diablo, who forces Lily to reveal the location of the famed Golden Grotto, seeking its fabled wealth but when he finds it empty he abandons her in the darkness. As she digs her way out Lily discovers the true treasure of the grotto - dozens of pearls in a hidden cavern. Rescued by the faithful Jem and her loyal crew, Lily's silver sword is soon put to the test ? but once again Diablo intervenes and Lily is cast adrift with Hussein Reis in a tiny boat without oars, sails, food or water - the traditional pirate's revenge. As they struggle to survive death, Reis reveals his true identity as Lily's father - and her anger at his deception isn't appeased by their eventual rescue. A stirring continuation of the Swashbuckler Trilogy, The Pirate's Revenge is another exciting adventure on the high seas and a fitting sequel to Ocean Without End.
