The Knights of the Red Lily come to Isenkliff to have Aurora-blades forged for them. The famous, old swordmaster Diorlin do Consabura et Vesac has yet other wishes because the Tolosan Troubles are looming ahead. The legendary Eternal Blacksmith of Isenkliff is reputed to have magical powers, and Eckehart promises him a sword that will make him forget the weight of his years in the coming battles.
For such a wonderful blade, he needs the Royal Ore, which, however, must first be mined deep below Isenkliff, in the realm of the Swatalb Erzkuning, guarded by a hellhound.
The price Eckehart asks for this is that the swordmaster will teach Kitt his fighting skills and the knightly code, and for this, the boy takes the risk underground.
