Christmas on the Prairie
(2001)And Other Selections by Newberry Authors
An anthology of stories edited by Martin H Greenberg and Charles G Waugh
Children's Literature
Part of a series containing selections by Newbery Authors, some of the proceeds from sale of this book go to the American Library Association. The six tales in this collection include the title story, excerpted from Priarie School written by Lois Lenski, which takes place in the Dakotas in the 1940's. That story focuses on the Christmas season, but the others do not, although "The Feed Mill" by Walter Edmonds includes a young boy using some of his hard-earned money to buy his mother and sisters Christmas presents. Other authors represented are Jean Craighead George and Charles J. Finger. Most of the selections are chapters from larger works, which leaves the reader wanting more.
