The Belgian and the Beekeeper

(2011)
(The first book in the Second Holmes and Poiret series)
A Novella by

1916. The year Hercule Poirot solves the mysterious affair at Styles. On the Sussex Downs, Sherlock Holmes, legendary detective turned beekeeper, receives an unexpected visitor. A foreign detective, perplexingly similar to the newly celebrated Belgian policeman.

Meanwhile, Brighton's Royal Pavilion has been converted into a hospital for Indian Army soldiers wounded on the Western Front in the Great War.

Two retired detectives (both once famous, one forgotten) combine forces to foil a murder plot against Dr Watson - and discover the source of his wealth. In doing so they uncover what has long been ignored: of the four men who made the Sign of The Four, whatever happened to the other three?

This playful mystery is the first of three novellas to feature Sherlock Holmes and his new colleague.

This Kindle original comes with bonus material. First, there is an appendix (of sorts) to the Belgian and the Beekeeper. Then there are two stories - The Great Detective and His Last Bow - in which movie stars Basil Rathbone and Nigel "Willy" Bruce are called on to solve mysteries linked to their well-loved roles on radio and the silver screen as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. And, finally, there is an excerpt from a full-length novel, Seven Days in Hollywoodland, to be published on Kindle in summer 2012, featuring Rathbone, Bruce and a host of Hollywood Golden Age movie stars in a mystery set in Tinsel Town in 1939.

Peter Guttridge is the author of the award-winning Nick Madrid comic crime series and the non-comic, noir Brighton Trilogy - City of Dreadful Night, The Last King of Brighton and The Thing Itself.
