A novel by

Summer 1978 and Paradise Island is about to have a very bad day.
Georgia's best-kept secret, the barrier isle was once the lair of pirates preying on the Carolinas, then an exclusive hideaway for America's wealthiest families. These days its population mostly comprises artists, writers, sculptors and affluent weekenders. Carefree, crime-free.
The only time there was a serious crime - a drive-by shooting outside the island's most popular bar committed by three drunken mainlanders - Police Chief Harry Wilson simply closed off the causeway that provides the only link to the mainland and waited until the perpetrators turned up there.
That's fine for catching punks but as Wilson learned many years before, in an incident he's determined nobody else should know about, some people you shouldn't try to restrain. Some people you should just set free.
English couple David and Beth Grant have rented a place on Paradise Island for the summer. Some months earlier the couple were the victims of a violent home invasion. They're looking for peace and quiet to repair their marriage and Beth's shattered nerves.
They've made a big mistake.
There's a man in the Witness Protection programme hiding on the island whose bloody past is about to catch up with him. And there's a gang of professional thieves coming to commit a major heist.
Paradise Island is about to have a very bad day.
