Are you too old to believe in elves? Ellie White thought she was...
“No matter your age, this beautiful, heartbreaking and heartwarming story will bring you tears of sadness and joy – in that order!”
Like all the best Christmas stories, ‘Wisp’ will tease your emotions. It could be described as a coming-of-age, triumph over adversity tale. It has been written to appeal to a wide age range, from early-teens upwards. But please note... the story does contain some scenes of extreme bullying. Enjoy ‘Wisp’, and (if you were old enough in 1992) it may bring back a memory or two!
This is the story - Eleanor Parkin-White takes her son and daughter to an elves and pixies party. Sticking around a while, she watches the children playing. Then she spots someone she once new. The blood freezes in her veins. It isn’t him, but it might as well be. Identical in every way, she can’t believe what she’s seeing. How could it be? And why now, after so long?
Unable to look away, as she watches him playing the memories come flooding back. Terrifying recollections of a time in her life she'd shut away, because it was just too awful to remember.
Eleanor is now the proud mum of two wonderful children; a confident, beautiful woman in total control of her life. But it hadn't always been that way. Once upon a time it was all very, very different....
It’s December 1992, and Ellie White lives a life of hell. She hates Christmas, and she hates the snow even more. She has good reason. A year ago, when she was just twelve years old, her parents left to go Christmas shopping. She never saw them again. Snow-covered winter roads caused a horrific accident, and they were gone forever. But that’s just the half of it. Now she lives with her grandparents, and new things have come into her world. Like a grandfather who, unable to cope with the loss of his only daughter, takes his belt to Ellie at every opportunity. And girls at her school, who bully her and make her academic life a misery.
Then one day, in her darkest hour, an unexpected friend comes to call. Far too old to believe in elves, Ellie White is about to get her mind changed on that one!
