The Shadow Between Vicky Fraser's father was a very rich man, but very conscioius of his complete lack of background and education - and the dream of his life was that his beloved daughter should marry into the aristocracy. He didn't know that Vicky had in fact already fallen in love with just the kind of man he had had in mind - Richard Sherrand, the local lord of the manor - and it seemed like a dream come true when Richard asked her to marry him.
