The Women Who Saved England

1215 Magna Carta - Betrayal In 1217 the war was going badly for the royalist cause, with King John dead and England's new King, Henry III, only nine years old, the king's supporters had lost control of the south, including Westminster where the French prince, Louis, had been acclaimed King of England. King Alexander of Scotland, sensing an opportunity, invades to join the French army in Kent. The axis of resistance to the rebels becomes focused on Lincoln, the last citadel available to the royalists before the whole country becomes a vassal state to King Philip of France. The Constable of Lincoln castle is now faced the prospect of siege and slow defeat. If she could not hold firm, all of England would surely crumble and fall before the rebel onslaught.
