One of Houghton's few fantasy novels (listed in Bleiler): a posthumous look back at a rather unpleasant character's life. Houghton is very good at writing eccentric Britons of the period between the World Wars, and his fictions hold up quite well. This is a pretty nice copy of the book (some evidence that the front parts of the boards got wet at some time) in a water-stained jacket that is frayed at the spine: previous owner's name and date of purchase on the front free endpaper. Houghton is an author that could use being re-discovered.
