The disappearances of scientists, all of them experts in their field, and of inestimable value to the British Government, had begun with the eminent doctor Talan Rong.
It had happened while Rong was in London for a weekend's rest from his research activities. He had been sitting down to dinner with a small company of friends. Then he had risen, excused himself, and left the room. No one had seen him after that.
In the following weeks, the same pattern of behaviour was repeated a further six times as six more scientists disappeared. In each case, all that was left behind was a white card that read: "The Green Mandarin needs me."
Denis Hughes (1917-2008) was a prolific writer who wrote a large number of science fiction and western novels. He wrote under a number of pseudonyms, including Ken Kester.
Genre: Thriller
