The Girl on the Titanic
(2024)(The second book in the Novels of the Titanic series)
A novel by Eileen Enwright Hodgetts
Who was to blame for the sinking of the Titanic?
Using sworn testimony from the US Senate hearings into the sinking of the Titanic, this question is examined in detail. Fictional characters intermingle with real characters so that the story takes on a very personal viewpoint and yet the actual witness testimonies remain unaltered, as do the established truths.
Titanic passenger American heiress Sophie Paxton once dreamed of achieving Olympic glory with Dick Williams. (Fact: Dick did go on to win a gold medal at the 1924 Olympics despite almost losing his legs while surviving the wreck). On the other hand the sinking of the Titanic shattered Sophies aspirations. Injuries from that icy night ended her own hopes of competing for an Olympic tennis championship, but they ignited a new fire within hera burning need for revenge. Discovering from the senate hearings that another ship, the Californian (fact), was close enough to rescue the Titanic's passengers but chose to ignore their cries for help, Sophie embarks on a relentless quest to expose the truth.
With the reluctant assistance of Sam White, a reporter more interested in discovering the secrets of the Jekyll Island banking conspiracy (fact), and John Alder, a determined senatorial aide, Sophie uncovers the identity of the Californian's captain: Stanley Lord. As she digs deeper, Sophies obsession with holding Lord accountable for her shattered life spirals out of control, blinding her to the danger she is bringing upon herself and those she loves.
In a race against her own demons, Sophie teeters on the brink of self-destruction. It will take a brave soul to stop her before she destroys everything and everyone in her path. But as her thirst for vengeance consumes her, the question remains: Will Sophies quest for retribution lead to her ultimate undoing or will she become the hero that exposes Stanley Lord, the captain of the Californian?
Genre: Historical
