Vera Fogg and the Society of Secrets

(2021)
(Book 15 in the Moonchuckle Bay series)
A novel by

In which Vera moves to London, hunts for a secret society, and encounters a villain or two.

What do Annie Oakley and Jane Austen have in common? If you put them together, you'd have Vera Fogg, 19th Century Adventuress.

Raised in the Wild West, Vera has no clue that she or anybody else has magical powers until her grandmother tells her — on her deathbed. Grandmother also mentions an inheritance, a London secret society, and that Vera needs to help save the magical world. There are more than a few problems with these revelations. For starters, Vera just helped the suffragettes in America win the right to vote — but England has no such right for females. It will be like starting over, and she hates to start over.

The night before their airship arrives in London, her parents confess they've arranged an engagement between her and a British Lord. Shocked, she decides to do something totally scandalous: refuse him and use her grandmother's inheritance to set up house on her own.

Unfortunately, the Lord takes a fancy to her so now, in addition to avoiding him, she needs to find the secret society, convince those in charge to let a mere female join their ranks, and help save the magical world.

No problem for a plucky derringer-toting suffragette, right?

Vera Fogg and the Society of Secrets is the first of the Suffragette Symposium books, and #15 in the Moonchuckle Bay series.
