When Detective Inspector Liz Miller visits a bingo club to arrest a murder suspect, the manager mistakenly thinks she’s there to enquire about a young female employee called Shauna. Intrigued, Miller learns that Shauna hasn’t been at work for 9 days and no one has heard from her. She seems to have vanished and left no trace.
More worrying, Shauna hasn’t been reported missing. Most murdered women are victims of current or previous partners. If Shauna is dead, the most likely culprit is her live-in boyfriend. Slam dunk. Case closed, right?
But Miller’s been around too long to assume anything. She’s seen the obvious take the wildest twist, and the mundane become the bizarre. She thinks nothing can surprise her anymore.
