The Wise One

When thunderbirds rage in the middle of storms that can crush a village, starving wendigos stalk cold nights, and dark powers work to stay just out of sight, survival from one day to another can be a challenge. But a woman named Numees has endured many days and seasons, outliving friends and a husband, finding a way to keep living and be of use to her tribe. When the hunting party from her tribe goes missing, though, she might be the only one who can figure out where they have gone and how to get them back. Can she survive meeting the forces that took them away?

"The Wise One" is a novella that takes place in the setting of Ulanigahi, the North American continent in the early stages of the age of colonialism. With fantastic creatures, strange magic, and clashes of powers, there are hundreds of stories that may flow out of this world. This is one of them!
