Judith Rydeen has grown up alone, mothers and without friends in Fenfallow the great house given to her Dutch father by William of Orange as a reward for his support in the Revolution. On her eighteenth birthday, her father decrees that she shall marry her cousin Maurice, from Holland. Judith finds it easy to love handsome and kind Maurice. But her jealous nature anhd headstrong folly unleash terrrible consequences on them and their children, and threaten to destroy their sweet romance.
