The WOLF KINGDOM books are set in a world that has been conquered by an army of wolf-soldiers. The tyrant Wolf-King treats his human subjects as slaves. The only resistance comes from Hooley Dan's Free Folk, who hide in a natural rock stronghold deep in the forest.

They set out in search of the Free Folk, barely surviving the perils of the forest and narrowly escaping from hunting-packs of wolves. They acquire their first magical object, a camouflage-creating belt that speaks to Tam and goes by the name of Berkiss.
