Blue Elk was ordered to rescue a doctor and his daughter that were healers of the smallpox disease for Fort Griffin. But Blue Elk arrived in time to only save the daughter, as her father had been killed by the Comanche. Emma Dawson had been eager to carry on her father's work, but after the harrowing rescue from the Comanche camp, the mountain lion attack, and the tornado, she wasn't sure she could carry on his work alone.
