Death Lurks In Birchville
(2024)(Book 56 in the Timber: U.S. Marshal series)
A Story by Robert Hanlon and Alfred Wallon
A brand new adventure from Robert Hanlon and Alfred Wallon!
Rancher Abe Wallace has sold his cattle herd for ten thousand dollars. But rumors have spread that the notorious Sullivan gang is after the money. So it was decided that a courier takes the money to the Cattlemens bank in San Angelo. However, this man disappeared without a trace with the money, never arriving at the bank. Governor Fullerton therefore instructs his best man, U.S. Marshal Jake Timber, to search for the missing courier. Timber decides to ride the route that the courier has presumably taken.
Not far from the small town of Birchville, he witnesses someone being shot at by several men from an ambush. It is the trader Zachary McIntire, whom Timber knows well - and so he helps him. Together they manage to put the bandits on the run, and two of them are so badly injured that they die a few moments later. One of them curses Timber and tells him shortly before his death that the Sullivan gang will take bloody revenge.
Zachary McIntire is also on his way to Birchville; however, Timber asks him to ride into the small town alone and ask around inconspicuously. Now that the trader has found out what mission Timber is on, he promises to help him. Neither Timber nor McIntire have any idea that the few inhabitants still living in the dying town of Birchville are hiding a dark secret - and death awaits anyone who finds out!
