Reb has always felt the void of the father she never knew and the distance from the mother she’s never been close to. Her only purpose in life is to master the art of lyric slamming, a passion that sets her apart.

Animated by the ancestral spirit voice who gifted her the Word, the teenager is already a celebrity in her tough East London neighbourhood.

Feeding on the love of her faithful grandmother Nanny, her best mixer Loops and her classmate Zoe, the young ghetto artist strives to raise herself through music.

Reb’s deepest concern, however, is convincing her big homie/brother, Zeekie, to leave behind the dangerous world of drug dealing. Haunted by the unresolved death of his own brother, Zeekie is consumed by the need to uncover the truth behind this tragedy.

When two horrendous murders happen within a few weeks of each other on her block, Reb and the residents of the estate are shocked to realise the systematic Black-on-Black violence that’s destroying their community.

As Reb grows in knowledge, mentored by Old Horace, the wise elderly busker from the local park, she’s prepared to heal the mentality of the disaffected youths growing up on her streets.

Can music be the key to opening their eyes and hearts, breaking the cycle of self-hatred and casual violence that grips their generation?
