Hogan wakes in a hospital, he doesnt remember how he got there. The United States is faced with a savage nuclear attacked. Millions of survivors are on the move, heading east. Hogan now realizes that he is trapped in Kansas City, with no way to get back home to his family. The refugees who survived the nuclear attack are met by an unwelcoming nation. Megan and her friend Tilly have found sanctuary, safety and food. But all isnt what they thought it would be. Ian, has a home, but he is forced into a life he hadnt counted on. Fellow Americans turn on each other when precious resources rapidly disappear. The government isn't forthcoming with vital information, nor helpful. A solution is created, massive structures, called Hives. Refugees are sent to these havens, offered food and shelter, but, at a price. On first blush, its the answer to all their problems. Once you go in, you cannot come out. The sanctuary has now become a prison, for all of America's citizens. It has become an apocalyptic life.
