Award-winning author, Edie James has deftly entered the epic fantasy genre. She is an avid dirt bike rider, runner, and whitewater guide. In addition to being a lover of great adventures, Edie is a CPA, engineer, and wrangler of two teenage boys. While she and her family have settled down in a spirited little town in Southern Oregon, as a military spouse, Edie has experienced many regions of the United States and appreciates all the unique characters she has met along the way.
But all characters in The Ardent Halo are fictional, except Grantis Rand and Aeryn O’Ter. When she first declared that she was going to write a book, her then 6 and 8-year-old sons said they wanted to be in it. They picked their character type, but Edie tried to write their actual personalities into the story. Years have passed, and as Grant and Aaron approach their character’s age, it’s like having a gregarious warrior and cunning wizard in the house (and raiding the pantry).
Epic stories where the dividing line between good and evil is less than certain are Edie's favorite. She loves characters who are tactile, flawed, and struggle to find compass north, and those who just ignore the compass and make a left-hand turn. Whimsical fantasy with protagonists and antagonists that were popped out of the mainstream molds are dull. Edie wants to feel like the story and its characters could be real.
