The first time I see Sam Lucas, he’s climbing out of a massive truck like he owns the road.
Tall, built, and scowling like my broken-down car personally offended him.
He doesn’t ask if I need help. Just pops the hood, mutters something under his breath, and fixes the damn thing like it’s his job.
Then he follows me home.
Shows up the next day with a tow truck.
Starts bringing me food. Driving me places. Watching me like he’s waiting for something.
