The innocent victims of violent crimes are often old, frail and defenceless. Beaten up in their own homes, sometimes for no more than the week's pension money, they are society's neglected sufferers. Passionately indignant at their plight, Joan Jonker founded "Victims of Violence" to redress the balance. Here she tells of how she gathered support, of her television confrontations with Lord Longford and Robert Kilroy-Silk, of how she battled her way to public attention and established two shelters in Liverpool for those temporarily unable to face the world again.
