Samantha Osgood heard many things growing up. For the most part, everything was straight out of the parenting handbook. You’ll understand when you’re older, you’re too young for a cell phone, video games will rot your brain, and don’t listen to an otter wearing a suit.

After somehow managing to break every rule in one night, Sam finds herself trapped in a video game. It was fun, at first, right until she crosses paths with a monster that no one in the game can stop. No one, that is, except for an otter wearing a suit.
Most parents hide the truth about the tooth fairy. For Sam, her father has been hiding the fact that magic exists, and can easily be found within nearly every book and video game in the world. Thanks to her accidental discovery, Sam has to go to Lazareth Academy, a school for those seeking to learn magic.
Not only will Sam have to figure out how to fit in at her new school, but she’ll have to catch up on all the things her classmates already know. Being on the wrong side of the learning curb is hard enough, but one trip into one of the school’s video games leads Sam to a mystery unlike any other. Someone, or something, has been trying to use the gaming world to break through to the other side. If they do, the world she just discovered could be ruined, bringing her new, fascinating life to a screeching halt.
