Jean Marreq is a painter. He is also an assassin.
Zbigniev Cybultana is an elderly Polish garage-owner with a beautiful daughter. He is also a safe-blower.
John Standish is a highly-respected English gentleman who hunts, shoots and fishes his north of England estate. He is a magistrate.
He is also one of the three best forgers in the world.
They are some of the members of ‘The Killers’—a small, secret international group of professional criminals and ex-criminals, linked by an unyielding hatred of Nazi Germany and her allies. Led by Standish, they operate behind enemy lines on missions of deadly danger—missions impossible for any orthodox military unit. ‘The Killers’ may sometimes be at the scene of a major action—Stalingrad, Normandy, Singapore—or they may be asked to help in a small personal incident.
In
To Win and To Lose, the action ranges from London to Dunkirk, from Paris to Warsaw. When ‘The Killers’ are called in, the pace is savage and tough. When they move, death is never far behind.
