This work follows 12 nurses, all either students or qualified, in a London teaching hospital for a working year. It answers such questions as: what motivates someone to be a nurse?; what challenges await today's student nurses on the wards and in the communities; what happens when a senior nurse disagrees with a doctor's treatment?; and how do nurses deal with the enormous pressures they face every day of their working lives.
