Friends in Low Places

(2024)
A novel by

Miles Alcott has always felt a bit like a fish out of water his whole life: he never made the Olympics as a gymnast, his parkour career wasn’t really taking off, and he didn’t have a tightly knit group of family and friends he could rely on through thick and thin.

Things seemed to get worse when he was transported to Thornwallace, a fantastical city from another place and time where life seems permanently frozen in a harsh early industrial era, crime and poverty run rampant, and magic lies hidden beneath the surface. The humans, elves, dwarves, and even more exotic creatures live hardscrabble lives and try to eek out survival in an unforgiving city.

Nothing in Miles’ life in America prepared him to last long in this place, but when he falls in with a guild of thieves, pickpockets, con artists, safe-crackers, and masters of disguise, he finds out that his athletic skills are perfectly suited to being the greatest cat burglar Thornwallace has ever seen.

With the money, power, and women he’ll get from being a master thief, Miles will find what he’s always been searching for: a family who have each others’ backs no matter how hard the obstacles they face become.
