The First Book of Dreams: Metropolis

What dreams may come before you shuffle off the mortal coil...

Troubled by night terrors? Need someone to bodyguard your dreams? Have a loved one who has slipped into a coma and the doctors can't explain why they sleep, or offer any hope of bringing them back? Then call Hypnos Inc. and ask for Nicodemus Smith, the dream retrieval expert.

Though Nic avoids publicity when she can, this time her client is a very high profile political consultant. Approached by this professional rival who fears for his life, she reluctantly takes on the case of guarding his dreams. But a murderous attack on the Wakeside lands her client in the hospital and turns police attention her way. It is soon apparent that someone has designs on the entire city government, but who will believe her? Few creatures in the Narcoscape are powerful enough to organize such a widespread overthrow in the waking world and she will need to call in a lot of favors if she is to save her client and foil the plot to take over the city's most powerful officials.

This will mean working dangerously long hours in the Narcoscape, the place of dreams where infants are beguiled by visions and do not wake in the morning. It is the shadowy realm of the coma patient and the last stop for the drug users who come looking for the arms of Morpheus. It is the kingdom of the insane, the place where dark things prey on the mind and where Nic has some deadly enemies.

Whoever said dreams can't hurt didn't know what they were talking about, but if Nic doesn't take the risk no one else will.

The Second Book of Dreams: Meridian

A serial killer is on the loose and Nicodemus Smith realizes that he is killing along a lay line that divides San Francisco in two. Nic wants to help the police when they come to her for guidance but she has her own difficulties. Someone abducted an entire yoga class during their meditation and left a dozen bodies in a coma. Whatever took them Dreamside was powerful enough to subdue thirteen disciplined minds and actually kill the class instructor. The victims' physical conditions are deteriorating rapidly in spite of their being on life support putting her on a short clock, but Nic's chance Dreamside encounter with the Meridian Killer changes her plans.

Welcome back to the Narcoscape, the shadowy realm of dreams where dark things prey on the mind. They all go there; the saints, the sinners, and the serial killers too. Can Nicodemus Smith, a Dreamside detective, find a Wakeside killer before he hunts her down?

The Third Book of Dreams: Destiny

Nicodemus Smith can control dreams, but can she control Destiny? She will have to if she is to save her lover and the Narcoscape from a rogue agent of the FBI.

Once the criminal elements began controlling their gangs from the Dreamside where there could be no wiretaps or spying by the usual law enforcement organizations, it was only a matter of time before the world's governmental agencies started trying to build beachheads in the Narcoscape. The Dream Police are doing what they can to keep official intervention away from the Dreamside, but it is an uphill battle especially when governments start experimenting with mind-control and end up engineering someone unspeakably powerful who gets away from them. Depending who one asks, this man is either a saint or doomsday for the world.

If this was not troubling enough, someone has been kidnapping homeless kids off the streets of San Francisco. Nic soon discovers that these kids all had something in common besides a history of mental illness.
