Skyler's finally going north to find Lisa.
With Sangue long since driven back across the southern US border, he's spent years waiting for her and her family to come home, or at least send word. Even though he has no idea what her fate is, he's never given up his love for his oldest and dearest friend.
He's gotten tired of waiting for her to come back, so he's going to leave the peaceful and prosperous life his family has rebuilt for themselves to go find her. It won't be an easy search, since all he knows is that the Hendricksons headed north hoping to outrun Sangue's invasion at the beginning of the Mountain War. But he won't give up, even if he has to scour the Northwest from the Pacific Ocean to the Great Lakes for ten years, like his dad did with the Southwest.
Although he may face some of the same challenges Trapper did all those years ago; since Sangue's defeat, bandits have once again begun preying on travelers. Including an unwelcome face from his past he hoped never to see again.
One man traveling alone is a particularly tempting target. As is the prosperous settlement of Lone Valley, where Skyler eventually finds himself.
